What could you do differently?

POSTED IN:

I suppose I could be more careful, generally speaking, but I’ve been pretty careful for much of my life, and aren’t the risks we take the things that make our lives interesting and full, if less predictable?

I suppose I could have fewer hobbies, avocations and interests, but don’t they say variety is the spice of life?

I suppose I could get more done if it weren’t for the time I spend with the people in my life who are important to me–family and friends, but I’m told that having close relationships is one of the main keys to happiness, especially later in life.

I suppose I could get angry and honk my horn at drivers who are going too slow, or cutting me off, or otherwise driving in ways that seem careless or idiotic to me, but what good would it do? (And why risk a road rage incident?)

I suppose I could eat more sensibly.

I suppose I could exercise more frequently and in different ways.

I suppose I could be more observant of things around me–there are interesting stories to be told everywhere if one pays attention.

I suppose I could spend more time practicing the banjo. (And the electric guitar, and the acoustic guitar, and the electric bass guitar, and the keys, and the mountain dulcimer, and the mandolin, and the Irish tin whistle…oh, and also the spoons.

I suppose I could worry less about tomorrow and try to be present and thankful for the current moment.
